From the first Question to the last Bolt.
After Normal is one practice across six capabilities — Architecture, Art & Design, Construction, Installations, Fabrication, and Research. Buildings and objects. Prototypes and permits. Exhibitions, shop floors, and site work.
We are not a design office that hands drawings to somebody else, and not a builder waiting for instructions. The people who ask the first Question are the ones standing there when the last bolt goes in.
Architecture
We design buildings that question assumptions and propose Alternatives. Whether it is a home, Mission Critical Infrastructure, or something in between, we treat architecture as both a structure and a statement — always intentional, never ordinary.
Art & Design
We design artifacts, furniture, and spatial elements that carry their own gravity. These are not filler pieces — they are built to spark Curiosity, shift perspective, and anchor a space with purpose.
Construction
We do not hand off. Our team ensures the vision translates clearly from idea to site. We navigate the technical, the messy, and the high-stakes with precision and persistence, so you do not have to.
Installations
From exhibitions to spatial interventions, we create immersive environments that provoke, invite, and resonate. These experiences may be temporary, but they are designed to linger — emotionally, visually, and architecturally.
Fabrication
We bring ideas into physical form through custom fabrication: prototypes, components, installations, one-off objects. From CNC to additive manufacturing to the hand-built, making is part of the design process, not just the result. If it does not exist yet, we will figure out how to build it.
Research
Our process begins with questions. Through mapping, modeling, and analysis we uncover hidden patterns and possibilities — using research not as background, but as a creative tool for shaping what comes next.
Question
We name the Default before we replace it.
Draw
Drawings are arguments, not illustrations.
Test
An unmade detail is not a detail. It is a hope.
Detail
Permit, coordination, shop ticket. The idea survives here.
Make
Close enough to the making to change our minds.
Stay
We do not hand off. The set stays open until it stands.
Tell us the constraint everyone else called impossible. We will tell you which of the six it calls for, who works on it, and what it takes to get it standing.
